Melissa Anderson is based in Brisbane, Australia. She is currently a practicing photographer, artist, and educator who also volunteers her time to various educational, arts, business, industry and community organisations. She uses the medium of photography to create discussion within communities on issues that challenge us, or should challenge us.
Melissa graduated from Griffith University in 1995, and has since been awarded her Masters from the Australian Institute of Professional Photography. She holds a formal qualifications in photography, teaching, business, management, speaking and training.
She has received many accolades throughout her career for her work, business skills and her photographic contributions towards community. Her work has been awarded, exhibited and published nationally and internationally, and she has lectured internationally. Her work is held in international, national and state galleries and collections, and she has been recognised for her cultural contributions through a RCC Australia Day Cultural Medal in 2018.
Melissa enjoys meshing digital and analogue technology together for her projects, and utilises large, medium and small format technology. She references historical contexts through processes such as tintypes, transfers and lifts, and other traditional and alternative analogue processes, and also contemporary digital and fine art processes.
She has volunteered her time for over 20 years in various industry organisations such as AIPP, ACMP, FIER, and contributed to the development of industry qualifications and a national accreditation program. This has included national board representation, and industry consulting for various projects and portfolios. She is a respected judge, exhibiting artist, speaker and trainer. Melissa is also a current Flying Arts Touring artist.
Melissa is an adventurous spirit and happiest when she feels connected to something bigger, overwhelmed by the wild power and fragility of our environment. Melissa is passionate about photography and education, and enjoys giving back through the medium she loves.
Her mission is to change the world, one image at a time.
